Last week we got our first peek at the shortlist for the upcoming Jason Bourne spin-off The Bourne Legacy. Almost every actor between the ages of 20 and 36 was mentioned as a possible candidate, and just when we thought no one else could be added, enter Shia LaBeouf. The Transformers star is the latest young man to put his horse in this casting race according to Latino Review.

The site claims that director and screenwriter Tony Gilroy has been meeting with some of Hollywood’s most eligible actors including LaBeouf. Nothing has been confirmed or finalized but he’s in the running. A couple years ago the actor may have been Hollywood’s “It Boy” but these days he has some tough competition.

Here is the list of actors previously mentioned as Bourne candidates:

  • Alex Pettyfer
  • Joel Edgerton
  • Josh Hartnett
  • Jake Gyllenhaal
  • Tobey Maguire
  • Paul Dano
  • Michael Pitt
  • Oscar Isaac
  • Garrett Hedlund
  • Kellan Lutz
  • Tobey Maguire
  • Michael Fassbender
  • Luke Evans
  • Taylor Kitsch
  • Benjamin Walker

Tough crowd. Perhaps what LaBeouf lacks in muscle and height he can make up for in speed? The Bourne Legacy will focus on a new character, which will leave it open for the possibility of Matt Damon returning to the franchise down the line. Legacy doesn’t center on Jason Bourne but a new assassin with a similar background as him.

What do you think of the candidates of The Bourne Legacy? Does LaBeouf have a shot?
