The winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress is Melissa Leo for The Fighter. The actress was the front runner in the category having won the Golden Globe and the Critic’s Choice Awards. She was given her statue by legendary actor Kirk Douglas. Leo appeared speechless and asked Douglas to pinch her once she approached the stage. Despite having won multiple awards this year, Leo let an F-bomb slip during her speech. She said, “When I watched Kate [Winslet] two years ago it looked so fucking easy!”
Check out who she beat…
The nominees for Best Supporting Actress were:
- Amy Adams, The Fighter
- Helena Bonham Carter, The King’s Speech
- Melissa Leo, The Fighter
- Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
- Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom
Really Ms. Leo? Were you really that shocked by your win that you couldn’t formulate words? For the past few months you’ve had no idea that you would win the Oscar? Come on now. Maybe she was nervous because it was actually happening but we felt her speech at the Golden Globes was much better and genuine. Perhaps she was overwhelmed by the fact that a legend like Douglas was giving her the award?
