The winners of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Score are Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for The Social Network. The former Nine Inch Nails frontman and his composing partner have made the jump from music to movies with their successful score for the David Fincher drama. Reznor and Ross both thanked their wives, Fincher, and the Academy for the award.
See who they beat…
The nominees for Best Score were:
- John Powell, How to Train Your Dragon
- Hans Zimmer, Inception
- Alexandre Desplat, The King’s Speech
- A.R. Rahman, 127 Hours
- Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, The Social Network
Who would have thought 15 years ago that Trent Reznor of all people would become a successful and respected film composer? Not us! He even acknowledged in his speech that him being there was crazy. For the rest of his life he’ll be known as Academy Award winner Trent Reznor.
Reznor and Hans Zimmer were our top two choices for this award, and even though we were leaning towards Zimmer, we’ll accept his loss. The Social Network did have a uniquely ominous tone to it that stood out amongst the films this year. We don’t think it was better than the Inception gong, but we have to deal with it.
