The winners of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Documentary are Charles Ferguson and Audrey Marrs for Inside Job. The documentary centered on the behind the scenes antics of the corporate community during the recession. Upon accepting his Oscar Ferguson said, “Three years after a horrific financial crisis caused by massive fraud, not a single financial executive has gone to jail and that’s wrong.” Touche.
See who they beat…
The nominees for Best Documentary Feature were:
- Exit through the Gift Shop
- Inside Job
- Waste Land
When Ferguson went to accept his award, he opened his speech by talking about the corporate theives in this country. We thought he was going to pull a Michael Moore and get booed of the stage but he reeled it in. He said, “This award is about the movies.” We’ve never seen Inside Job, but we have to admit after seeing his passion on stage, we’re interested in giving it a shot.
Marrs was one of the producers on the film, and she didn’t say anything nearly as snazzy as her partner because she was visibly nervous. That’s understandable. We would be too.
