The winner of the 2011 Academy Award for Best Animated Film is Toy Story 3, no surprise there. Lee Unkrich accepted the award on behalf of the rest of the cast and crew. He thanked his parents and said “thank you to audiences all over the world who came out in historic numbers and embraced a movie about talking toys that hopefully had something very human to say.”

See who Toy Story 3 beat…

The nominees for Best Animated Film were:

  • How to Train Your Dragon
  • The Illusionist
  • Toy Story 3

Toy Story 3 was arguably the best film of 2010 and the Academy was going to give it the award for Best Animated Feature because they were too afraid to give it Best Picture. Even though we liked Toy Story 3 (like everyone else), we feel sorry for the folks who worked on How to Train Your Dragon. We’re sure that if the film came out a year before or after Toy Story it would have taken home the Oscar. Unfortunately, DreamWorks Animation has been playing second fiddle to Pixar all year.

Congrats to Toy Story 3, and our condolences to How to Train Your Dragon. Maybe next time.

Do you agree with this year’s winner for Best Animated Film?
