The winners of the 2011 Academy Award for Achievement in Visual Effects are Paul Franklin, Chris Corbould, Andrew Lockley, and Peter Bebb for Inception. This is another technical award going to Christopher Nolan’s film. The crew thanked the director, the producers, the visual effects team back in London, and of course the Academy.

See who they beat…

The nominees for Achievement in Visual Effects were:

  • Alice in Wonderland
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I
  • Hereafter
  • Inception
  • Iron Man 2

Was there a doubt in anyone’s mind who would take home the Oscar in this category? Granted both Potter and Iron Man 2 had some great effects, but Inception was a standout. On another note, how did Hereafter make it to the nomination ballot with only one serious visual effects sequence? It didn’t deserve to be nominated at all.

Anyway, the folks for Inception deserved their win and they were very happy about it. This was another one of the technical awards that the film swept during the show. It’s unfortunate that they couldn’t have gotten something even bigger like Best Original Screenplay or Best Picture. One can dream, can’t they?

Congrats Inception! You deserved your win!

Do you agree with this year’s winner for Best Visual Effects?
