Nicholas Hoult is having a great week. The young actor appeared in the premiere trailer for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men First Class, and now he’s landed the lead in another tentpole production — Jack the Giant Killer. According to Deadline, the former child star will appear as the title character in the film that will be directed ironically by X-Men and X2: X-Men United helmer Bryan Singer.

We first learned that Hoult was in the running for the part back in December when he and Kick-Ass star Aaron Johnson were shortlisted.

The most recent draft of the Jack the Giant Killer script centers on the kidnapping of a princess that threatens a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. The screenplay was written by frequent Singer collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.

This is the biggest role that Hoult has tackled thus far. He previously appeared as a supporting character in the Clash of the Titans remake and he also starred as the lead in the UK TV show “Skins” after his breakout feature role in 2002′s About a Boy. That “boy” has turned into a 6’3′ man and he’s ready to tackle Hollywood. Look out Robert Pattinson, you’re not the only one with high cheekbones and smoldering eyes.
