Do you remember back in November when there were rumors about Zac Efron starring in the Akira movie? Well, now there’s news that another actor has dibs on a primary role in the film. According to a report from JustJared, Oscar nominee James Franco is in talks to star. For some of you this could be considered a good and a bad thing. It’s great because the film might be out of Efron’s orbit, but bad because Franco doesn’t exactly fit in with the Akira world.

Warner Bros will join forces with Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way to take on the big screen adaptation. The movie will be based on anime artist Katsuhiro Otomo’s 6-volume graphic novel that’s become a worldwide phenomenon among fans. For years there’s been talk of adapting the property but the majority of the plans have fallen through — until now.

The studio has hired Albert Hughes to direct the feature, and Franco is in talks to play Kaneda. Hmm, not to be funny but Franco doesn’t look like a Kaneda to us. Are they going to keep all the Asian names and settings but hire Caucasian actors? That doesn’t make any sense.

Is it just us, or are they trying to cast this man in EVERYTHING?!

What do you think of Franco playing Kaneda? Do you think he’s the right pick?
