It’s official: Oscar winner Charlize Theron has joined the cast of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. The film which originally started out as a prequel to Alien, will be headline by Swedish star Noomi Rapace and she’ll get some supporting help from Theron and the extremely talented Michael Fassbender.

The plot for Prometheus hasn’t been revealed but Scott has said this in the past:

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

Rapace will star as the lead character Elizabeth Shaw, Fassbender will play an android, and we’re assuming Theron will star as one of the other female leaders on a top secret expedition.
