Filmmaker Kevin Macdonald’s latest feature to hit theaters is entitled The Eagle. It stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell, and it’s a period piece set against the backdrop of Rome. After its release Macdonald will take a step back into the world of documentaries with a film that covers the life of legendary musician Bob Marley.

Macdonald has been given unprecedented access to the Marley’s family’s private archives and will, and with their cooperation, he will attempt to produce a definitive look at the artist’s life and work.

Macdonald said, “I was already intrigued by the Marley story but the way in which this film is developing, as we delve through the archive materials and interview key characters in his life, has surpassed my expectations. What made Bob tick is probably unanswerable but viewers will certainly feel that they know him a little better after seeing our documentary. I am grateful to the Marley family for entrusting me with their heritage.”

The film will be simply titled Marley, and the singer’s son Ziggy Marley will serve as one of its executive producers. The production will have a worldwide appeal with filming taking place as far as Ghana, Japan and the UK, in addition to his beloved Jamaica and the States.
