A couple weeks ago a shortlist was released of the actors in the running for the Tim Burton produced flick Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The talents included Adrien Brody, Josh Lucas, Timothy Olyphant, James D’Arcy, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and stage vet Benjamin Walker. Last night, the role was finally cast and went to the least known out of the bunch — Walker!

Walker made a big splash late last year when he was cast to play Hank McCoy aka Beast in X-Men: First Class, unfortunately, shortly after, he was replaced by Nicholas Hoult. One film’s trash is another’s treasure because now he’s landed the lead as honest Abe in Vampire Hunter. Variety has confirmed the news stating that out of all the actors who screentested for the part, Walker was the stand out.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictionalized creation of the former U.S President which mixes historical events with fantasy. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is known for his ability to blend classic figures and properties with old school horror elements. In the book and the film Lincoln is re-imagined as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2012.
