We knew sooner or later that MTV’s guilty pleasure “Jersey Shore” was going to find another way to exploit Italian culture. The majority of the cast consists of men and women of Italian decent, and they’ve gotten grilled in the media for their negative representation of the people. Now it seems as if they want to set the record straight by hanging out with citizens from the motherland. “Jersey Shore” is going to Italy!
MTV announced on Tuesday morning that they’ve given the green light to a fourth season of their hit “Jersey Shore,” which will take the cast overseas.
“While the stateside ‘Jersey Shore’ locales have become iconic for our audience it’s really the constantly evolving dynamic amongst the cast that keep them coming back each season and Europe is a fresh spin on a show that continues to reach new heights for us,” said Chris Linn, Executive Vice President of Programming and Head of Production for MTV. “The cast is headed to the birthplace of the culture they love and live by. We can’t wait to see what erupts as a result.”
We’re not sure how close they are to their Italian roots besides the superficial stereotypes they’ve played out on the show. We know that Vinnie is first generation, so he may have had some real exposure to the genuine culture but who knows about everyone else?
We wonder how the native Italians will react to the group once they step on their soil?
What do you think of Jersey Shore heading to Italy? Is this a good or a bad move?
