Paramount Pictures has just announced their newest venture with actor and writer Sacha Baron Cohen. The man who brought us Bruno and Borat will now bring us The Dictator. The film is a comedy (no surprise there) and it’s scheduled to open in theaters on May 11, 2012. So what is the movie about exactly? Find out below…
According to the studio press release, the film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed. It is inspired by the best selling novel “Zabibah and The King” by Saddam Hussein. Cohen will not only star but also co-produce the film.
In not so shocking news, the film will be directed by Larry Charles, who previously worked with the actor on Borat and Bruno. The first movie was a hit, the second was a bore, so hopefully the third one will rekindle the duo’s magic touch. The Dictator marks the first time that Cohen has worked with super-producer Scott Rudin, who’s achieved great success recently with The Social Network and True Grit.
