Do you remember the Spanish sci-fi thriller TimeCrimes? A few years ago it blew into the Sundance Film Festival and made quite the impression on the viewing audience. As you already know, Hollywood can’t let a good thing go untarnished so DreamWorks has decided to produce an American version of the film, and according to Deadline they’ve already hired a writer.

Steve Zaillian has been commissioned by DreamWorks to rewrite the script for TimeCrimes, which had several early drafts done by Tim Sexton. The film’s story centers on a man who repeatedly goes back in time an hour in an attempt to alter the events of a crime. This will be another high profile project for Zaillian who just came off of adapting Stieg Larsson’s novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo for David Fincher. He’s also expected to pen the follow up The Girl Who Played With Fire.

As if those projects weren’t enough, Zaillian has his hands full with Bennett Miller’s upcoming film, Moneyball and Martin Scorsese’s crime drama The Irishman. He’s a busy, busy man.

What do you think of Zaillian rewriting TimeCrimes? Have you seen the original?
