HeatVision is reporting that Academy Award winner Frances McDormand will put her best voice forward in the upcoming sequel, Madagascar 3. The actress has been hired to play the villain in the film, which will pit her against wildlife favorites Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria. This will mark the actress’ first voice over role!

The previous installments of Madagascar were written and co-directed by Eric Darnell, but for the third outing he will direct solo from a screenplay written by Noah Baumbach. Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith are all slated to reprise their roles as a group of New York Zoo animals. The premise of the new film will have the lost friends reunite and try to find their way home via a traveling circus. That should be interesting.

McDormand’s character is described as “a calculating and goal-oriented animal control officer who leads her team to capture the animals.” Some other new creatures that will be introduced in the film include “an Italian sea lion, a Russian tiger and a Latina jaguar.”

Madagascar 3 is slated for release on May 18, 2012.

What do you think of McDormand joining the cast of Madagascar? Are you interested in seeing another sequel?
