James Franco is putting his multiple college degrees to work. The actor who went back to school for screenwriting and directing has decided to put those skills to the test. According to Showbiz411, he’ll direct and pen scripts based on the works of William Faulkner and Cormac McCarthy. Someone’s pulling double duty!
The site claims that Franco is currently in talks to direct a feature version of Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying from his own screenplay. He’s been in contact with the late author’s estate for a while, and he already has a commitment deal with 20th Century Fox. Franco hopes to get the production off the ground by next spring.
Franco also has his eye on Cormac McCarthy’s Blood Meridian, which he’s also interested in writing and directing next year. McCarthy previously provided the source material for the drama The Road, which starred Viggo Mortensen.
Back in December, Franco was also said to be directing a biopic based on the life the late actor Sal Mineo. Where is Franco going to find the time to do all of this stuff? We’ll just have to wait and see how much of this is fact and how much of it is fiction.
What do you think of Franco’s move to directing and writing?
