Before you freak out from the title of this article, we’re well aware that J.R.R. Tolkien is no longer with us. The famous fantasy author died back in 1973 at the age of 81, but his name lives on through his works. Most notably he brought us The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, two properties that have film counterparts and huge worldwide audiences. People love Tolkien, therefore we shouldn’t be surprised that they actively acknowledge and celebrate his birthday (January 3, 1892) when it comes around each year.

According to The Tolkien Society, today fans all over the globe will take part in a special birthday toast for the author. “To make the Birthday Toast, you stand, raise a glass of your choice of drink (not necessarily alcoholic), and say the words ‘The Professor’ before taking a sip (or swig, if that’s more appropriate for your drink). Sit and enjoy the rest of your drink.”

Paul Axtell of Oxford, England, will be raising a glass of fruit juice to the Professor. “The greatest writer of the modern age,” he posted on the site. “He is at rest not far from where I live and I often visit his grave to pay my respects for this I feel lucky.”

The event takes place at 9 pm (your local time) and it’s a coveted tradition. Will you be taking part in it?

Will you celebrate Tolkien’s birthday this year? Are you a fan of The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings?

I just loved this mans creativity and so glad that TOLKEN s mind created this radical radical story of the hobbitt in those 3 GIANT BOOKS-WOW-.It was the first time ever that I had got involved in and long story and stay with it except tecknical stuff. SWEET Suzy Bugle introducded me to the Hob bitt back in 1972 I beleave.and I was off spell bound as I remember I laid in bed for daysand read 13 hours a day but could not eat or sleep-spellbound and such a giant of a story to follow on and on and in radical fantasy land.I hope JR TOLKEN IS AROUND FOREVER – THANKS SIR TOLKEN FOR A LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCE WAY BACK WHEN AS WELL AS NOW AND FORWARD ON THREW THE STEPS OF TIME.
