Ed Helms is done playing the sidekick in movies and on television. He’s ready to headline his own film. The actor stars in the upcoming comedy Cedar Rapids that features him taking on the role of an insurance agent. Oddly enough, the movie plays like a combination of The Hangover,” The Office,” Office Space, and maybe a touch of Hot Tub Time Machine, but without actual time travel. Check it out and tell us what you think…
Are we the only ones slightly weirded out by Maeby (Alia Shawkat) from “Arrested Development” making out with Helms? We still see her as a kid. But other than that they get props for having Rob Corddry, and making a reference to “The Wire.”
To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), “naive” is a gross understatement. He’s never left his small hometown. He’s never stayed at a hotel. And he’s never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional.
Cedar Rapids is scheduled to hit theaters on February 22, 2011.
