When the NBC Thursday night line up returns from its holiday hiatus you might notice something different about “30 Rock.” One of the core cast members will be M.I.A. According to EW, Tracy Morgan aka Tracy Jordan will opt out of at least two episodes next year because of a medical emergency that had to be taken care of.

Morgan is currently recovering from surgery after undergoing a kidney transplant around December 10. The procedure was successful and he’s been seen out and about but the writers want to give him all the time he needs to recover. His alter ego Tracy’s absence will be written into the show. Jordan will have “some sort of a meltdown because of a good thing that’s happened to him.”

He’ll be missing from two or three episodes that are scheduled to air in March. According to Morgan’s rep:“Tracy is doing well and taking some much needed time to recover after the surgery. He is looking forward to going back to work after the holidays.”

Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996, and is the second cast member on the show to have a kidney transplant. Grizz Chapman, who plays one of Tracy Jordan’s security guards went under the knife earlier this year.

What do you think of the story-dictated exit for Tracy Jordan? Does it work?
