The name Shelley Malil might not sound familiar to you but the title The 40 Year Old Virgin does. Malil is an actor who appeared in the 2005 Judd Apatow film where he played a co-worker of Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Romany Malco, and Seth Rogen’s characters. His name was Haziz and he infused the film with some great comedy, unfortunately the actor’s life has taken a dark turn since the movie’s release.

According to People Magazine, Malil was arrested two years ago for stabbing his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe. Back in September he was convicted of assaulting the woman, and this week he was handed his sentence. The judge gave him the maximum punishment, which is life in prison. He’ll be up for parole in 10 years.

After being sentenced, Malil spoke to the court and said, “I failed miserably, not only as a human being, but as a father, son, uncle, brother, friend,” he said. “What I did to Kendra – I don’t have the words to express my remorse.” Before the stabbing took place, Malil said he was visiting Beebe to make amends after taking things from her home but he found her with another man instead. From there he went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed her repeatedly.

At the end of it all Beebe was stabbed 23 times and told the court, “Despite plunging a knife in me 23 times and trying to kill me, I am alive. Despite the wicked scars he left on my body, I am alive.”

What a horrible way to go out. The 40 Year Old Virgin is one of our favorite comedies and Malil is hilarious in it. Talk about a waste of time and talent.
