We’ve got an awesome casting scoop for one of television’s funniest shows: “Modern Family.” According to EW, the regulars will get a visit from an Oscar nominee in the form of Matt Dillon. Not only that, but Shelley Long will reprise her role as Claire (Julie Bowen) and Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) troublesome mother.
No air date has been announced as of yet, but we hear Dillon will play an ex-boyfriend of Claire’s in an upcoming episode. Claire will be uncomfortable with his visit for multiple reasons. For one, he’s her ex and secondly, he’ll have a new woman on his arm — her mother DeDe Pritchett! Damn it mom! What a way to fall back into your children’s lives.
The last time we saw DeDe she caused quite a stir when she appeared drunk at Jay and Gloria’s wedding. That woman sure knows how to make an entrance. Even though we were secretly hoping that Tom Cavanaugh would play her ex, we’ll except Dillon. You can’t fault us for wanting to see a little “Ed” reunion. Bowen had great chemistry with him on that show.
What do you think about Dillon appearing on Modern Family? What do you think about Long’s return?
