In November we learned that Grammy award winning singer Mary J. Blige had been cast in Adam Shankman’s feature adaptation of the stage musical, Rock of Ages. According to a report from The Wrap, she might be joined by Alec Baldwin, who’s been offered a major role in the film. Not only that but there’s also word that Tom Cruise might even get in on the action.
The site claims that Baldwin has been offered the role of Dennis Dupree, in the New Line production. The part was originally played by Kyle Gass in the 2006 run of the play. The character is “an ex-rocker who hangs onto his glory days by operating the Bourbon Room, a club on the Sunset Strip.” Somehow we can actually see Baldwin in this role. Blige will star as “Justice, the sassy owner of a gentleman’s club on the Sunset Strip.”
In a not so understandable twist, Tom Cruise is being eyed to play Stacee Jaxx, whom was originally played by Chris Hardwick. Apparently Cruise has been in the studio testing his vocal cords to see if he has what it takes to pull off the part. But nothing has been set in stone and no negotiations have taken place.
What do you think of Baldwin and Cruise as possible stars of Rock of Ages?
