My favorite father & daughter relationship in a film has to be the one found in Paper Moon by the great Peter Bogdanovich.. There is a great charm and sadness as a bootlegging con man takes a young orphan under his wing, a young orphan from an old flame (making it in all likelihood his daughter). Art mirrors life as the the father (Moses) and daughter (Addie) are so in real life (played by Ryan and Tatum O'Neal), emboldening the perfect chemistry of the performances. One of an unsure father and independent daughter coming to together in unsavory circumstances.
The ending with it's black and white melancholy of Moses staring at a photo of Addie sitting on a "Paper Moon" still haunts me. So beautiful and touching.

Mine's a little offbeat — because it's a baseball movie, I guess: Ray and Karen from Field of Dreams.
I love how she sees Shoeless Joe Jackson first ("Daddy, there's a man standing on your lawn.") and how she's the first to grasp that people will come… I love that she's not thrown by her dad's odd visions, that she digs the outlandish idea of plowing up corn to build a ballpark. Ray tells her about Joe as he's building the field… but also that both parents stand up for her solution to the main story problem. Their dialogue works both ways… Annie and Ray always seemed like cool parents to me.

The relationship between "Lucy Diamond Dawson" (Dakota Fanning) and "Sam Dawson" (Sean Penn) in the 2001 film I Am Sam is so beautiful to me. It shows the depths of unconditional love between father and daughter. Sam teaches his daughter to be strong and good to others without any prejudice and to always show compassion. This movie made me cry so much, for the sadness I felt in realizing that so many of us lack the ability to see things through Sam's eyes, but also for the happiness I felt as the film allowed me access into such an intimate and wonderful father daughter relationship.

Taken – Liam Nesson and Maggie Grace.
You cannot help but admire the determination of Nesson to tracking down and saving his daughter.
