Last week we learned that Shia LaBeouf was in negotiations to join Tom Hardy in John Hillcoat’s adaptation of The Wettest County. According to THR, the young actor’s involvement is a done deal and he’s been confirmed to star in the passion project and he’s not the only one joining the cast. Jessica Chastain has also been confirmed to play one of the female leads.
The Wettest County is a period piece set during the Prohibition era. The film is based on a novel from Matt Bondurant and centers on his grandfather and two great-uncles. The true gangsters story tells of the Bondurants boys, bootlegging siblings taking the law into their own hands in Prohibition-era Virginia while making a run for the American Dream.
Hardy and LaBeouf will play the brothers, while Chastain will play Hardy’s love interest, “a big city woman now living in a small town who at one time was mixed up with gangsters. At one time Scarlett Johansson was considered for a role in the film as well as Ryan Gosling but those deals fell through.
What do you think of the line up for The Wettest County? Are you ready to see Hardy and LaBeouf as bootleggers?
