If you’re still hoping that another good X-Men movie is in your future, you’ve probably been following the development of First Class. Over the weekend, the first official plot synopsis for the film was released and it gives us some idea of why there’s such an overflow of mutants, and why the setting of the 1960s is such an integral part of the story. Check it out…
Official Plot Synopsis:
X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
That’s a pretty general outline of the origin story of the X-Men. It doesn’t really tell us why so many mutants appear out of their timelines. What’s Azrael doing there? Seriously. It’s hard to get excited about this movie considering the quality of its predecessors. We can only hope that Matthew Vaughn is setting us up for something good. Something that can bring the X-Men to their former glory.
