The King’s Speech star Colin Firth is looking for a new gig and he might find one with the Coen brother’s scripted remake of Gambit. According to Deadline, he’s in talks to star in the film which will be directed by Michael Hoffman. Oscar winner Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine starred in the original version from 1966.

Gambit centers on “a cat burglar who tries to rob a billionaire of his priceless statue and enlists the help of a waitress who is a dead ringer for the victim’s late wife. While the burglar has carefully planned the job in his head, the execution is complicated by his relationship with his pretty accomplice.” The film will mark the first time in 25 years that the Coen brothers have written a script that they won’t also direct.

In the remake Firth will obviously take over the role that originated with Caine. We’re not sure who will play the female lead. What actress has the charisma, beauty, and screen presence that MacLaine had in the sixties?

The producers are looking to begin filming on Gambit in London and Texas before the summer.

What do you think of Firth starring in Gambit? Is it a good fit?
