The first time we noticed Kelly Macdonald it was in Danny Boyle’s cult classic Trainspotting. She was one of the many up and comers to appear in the film including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, and Kevin McKidd. These days she’s charming U.S. audiences with her role in HBO’s runaway hit “Boardwalk Empire.” Now that the first season is complete, she’s got some free time but she’ll stay busy by appearing in the final chapter of the Harry Potter saga: The Deathly Hallows: Part II.

Macdonald’s casting was revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine where she stated that she’s currently working on the second part of The Deathly Hallows in the role of Ravenclaw aka The Grey Lady. We’re not sure how many of you have read the entire Potter book series so we won’t divulge any plot spoilers regarding this character. But she does play a small but integral part in the finale.

Unlike it’s predecessor, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I, Part II will be released in 3D (why?) and will hit theaters on July 15, 2011.

What do you think of Macdonald playing Ravenclaw in the final Potter film? Do you think she can pull it off?
