Sam Neill Joins JJ Abrams’ TV Series Alcatraz
By Krystal Clark
We’ve just received another casting update for JJ Abrams latest television series, “Alcatraz.” Thus far the roster consisted of “Lost” alum Jorge Garcia and TV regular Sarah Jones, now according to a report from Deadline we can add Dr. Grant — we mean, Sam Neill to the cast. He’s the latest actor to join the prison-centric drama.
“Alcatraz’s” premise centers on “a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who reappear in the present day. It chronicles the efforts of a team of FBI agents to track them down and unravel the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years prior.” Neill will star as “Emerson Hauser, the head of a government agency who radiates authority and piercing intelligence.”
As for the rest of the cast, Garcia will play Dr. Diego Soto, a hippy geek who’s an expert on the prison and the island. Jones will play the role of Rebecca Madsen, a smart, thoughtful and a little obsessive police officer. Jonny Coyne also appears in a lead role, while Jason Butler Harner plays a supporting character.
“Alcatraz” is a developing pilot for Fox.

It's a perfect role for Sam Neill. He's at his best playing intelligent characters who radiate authority. His best role ever was as the brilliant and historical spy, Sidney Reilly in the miniseries, "Reilly: Ace of Spies."
