Two major casting announcements have been made for George Clooney’s next directorial feature The Ides of March. The Social Network’s Max Minghella has joined the film along with the talented Jeffrey Wright. The duo will join the current roster that includes Ryan Gosling, who’ll play one of the leads in the feature formerly known as Farrugut North.
Farragut North was based on the stage play of the same name that’s set in Des Moines, Iowa, just weeks before the state’s Democratic caucuses officially commence; it follows the exploits of a twenty something presidential campaign spinmeister/wunderkind named Stephen Myers, and the dirty pool he plays to get his candidate the nomination against a rival senator.
According to Deadline, Minghella has signed on to play Ben Harper, and according to Daily Mail, via The Playlist, there’s been no word on what character Wright will play. Thus far The Ides of March consists of Gosling, Paul Giamatti, Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood.
Clooney himself will play a candidate running in the presidential primary race for the Democratic Party ticket. Gosling will play the role of press spokesman, Giamatti will be a rival campaign manager, Tomei stars as a reporter for the New York Times and Wood portrays an intern for the campaign.
Production on The Ides of March is scheduled to begin in February 2011.
