The first trailer for Shawn Levy’s latest film Real Steel has been released. It stars Hugh Jackman and centers on giant boxing robots. With a combination like that, what else is there to know? The trailer is a lot better than we thought it would be and the character Jackman plays kind of reminds us of his role in Swordfish, but without the earring. Check out the trailer…
Hugh Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next. When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build and train a championship contender. As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.
We’re very surprised by this trailer. The premise is on the ridiculous side and we thought it would look corny and cheap but it’s not that bad. They give the robots their own personalities. Did you see the one with the mohawk? We also can’t turn down anything that has Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, and Anthony Mackie in it. That’s a winning combination.
Real Steel opens in theaters everywhere on October 7, 2011.
