For those of you who are excited about the upcoming Muppets movie we have some good news. You’ll be able to see the film a lot sooner than you thought. The Muppets was scheduled to hit theaters on December 25, 2011 but Disney has changed their plans. The studio just announced that the film will debut over the Thanksgiving weekend instead.
The release date has been set for November 23, 2011. You’ll get to see Kermit, Ms Piggy, Gonzo, Animal, Fozzie, and the rest of the gang a whole month early. We’re not sure what the logic is behind their decision but here’s the statement they released explaining the shift.
“Disney has had incredible success opening films over the Thanksgiving weekend, and thanks to ‘Tangled,’ we have the top three Thanksgiving openers of all time,” said Chuck Viane, president of global distribution for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. “I have spoken with The Muppets, and we all agreed this comedy is a great fit for the holiday 2011 time frame.”
Despite it’s inability to debut at number one during its opening weekend Tangled finally managed to earn the top spot two weeks after its release. It did have solid opening over Thanksgiving but the last time we checked, it was surpassed by the latest Harry Potter.
What do you think of Disney’s decision to move The Muppets up?
