What would happen if Sam Witwicky from Transformers joined forces with Eames from Inception? You might soon find out because Shia Labeouf and Tom Hardy are both in talks to star in the dramatic thriller The Wettest County in the World. The film that will be directed by John Hillcoat was rumored to have Labeouf starring opposite Ryan Gosling, but it seems that role will be played by Hardy.
According to 24 Frames, The Wettest County is a period piece set during the Prohibition era. The film is based on a novel from Matt Bondurant about a family of bootleggers, and the crimes committed by and against them. It’s an independently financed project that’s expected to begin shooting this spring.
The idea of Labeouf and Hardy illegally distributing alcohol to the masses does sound like an interesting premise but will Hardy’s schedule permit it? According to co-star Michael Caine, The Dark Knight Rises should begin shooting sometime in May of next year. Will that be enough time for the Hardy to prepare and do both? We all know how much Christopher Nolan likes to prepare before films. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of breathing room between the two.
What do you think of Hardy and Labeouf working together? Are you familiar with the book?
