We know this is a movie blog but every now and then a video game with a certain cinematic quality catches our eye. The latest to pull off this rare feat is Batman: Arkham City. It’s the follow up to the highly successful Batman: Arkham Asylum, which had the Dark Knight fighting against the biggest crazies the institution had to offer including his arch nemesis The Joker. Today a new teaser trailer has been released for the game and even though it’s a mere 30 seconds long, it will leave you yearning for more.

Synopsis: (via Wikipedia)

The story for Arkham City takes place one year after the events of Arkham Asylum. Quincy Sharp, former warden of Arkham Asylum, has taken credit for stopping the Joker, and used that notoriety to become mayor of Gotham City. As neither Arkham nor Blackgate Prison are in any condition to hold inmates, Sharp buys out a large section of Gotham’s slums and arms the perimeter with private military contractors from a group called Tyger in order to create “Arkham City”.

The prisoners are brought into Arkham City and are given free rein, as long as they do not attempt escape. To oversee the city, Sharp uses psychiatrist Hugo Strange who appears to have his own secret agenda for the city. Batman maintains a vigil over the city, worried that the situation may get out of hand.

Kevin Conroy will once again reprise his role as Batman, and even though you didn’t see or hear him, Mark Hamill will be back as The Joker. The last time we checked he was still recovering from his battle at Arkham Asylum.

Hopefully we’ll see more of The Joker in the game when the official full trailer debuts at this year’s Video Game Awards which airs on SpikeTV December 11.
