German writer/director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck stole away The Tourist from Bharat Nalluri and brought with him the ultimate A-list female lead and hopefully a fun espionage film that lives his up to his previous work. The film is by far the sexiest, action film of the year, set in Venice, Italy, in gorgeous mansions with heartthrobs, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp — sex and violence anyone? Donnersmarck is best known for his Oscar winning 2006 film The Lives of Others, but has stepped out of his comfort zone to try a huge-Hollywood remake of the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer. Will it be worth it?
Sony sent over some clips from interviews done with the cast and the director. Find out what attracted him to the role and more below…
The story of the film centers on an American tourist (Depp) visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.
The Tourist hits theaters on December 10th.
