Just when DreamWorks Animation was starting to gain our respect they had to ruin it by going sequel crazy. They must be drunk with power because according to a report from Empire, they’ve made plans to make multiple follow ups to their most successful films. We’re talking more Kung Fu Pandas, more Madagascars, and more How to Train Your Dragons.

Jeffrey Katzenberg confirmed to the UK site that we should be looking for “a total of four Madagascar films, six Pandas (which was already rumored) and at least three Dragons.” While at the DVD promotional event for Shrek Forever After (another franchise that got beat into the ground) Katzenberg said that each property is looked at as a book with multiple chapters.

“What our movies and our franchises also share in common with Shrek is that they have a beginning, a middle and an end; they’re not open-ended. Each of the films is a chapter of a story and in every instance we knew what that journey was or could be before we even started.

Therefore when it comes to the future of the other films he said, “Kung Fu Panda actually has 6 chapters to it, and we’ve mapped that out over the years. How To Train Your Dragon is at least three: maybe more, but we know there are a least three chapters to that story. There are actually 8 books.”

He also went on to say that there’s a fourth Madagascar story on the way that deals with the animals coming to terms with their New York habitat again.

We don’t want to ruffle any feathers but was Kung Fu Panda really that great? And How to Train Your Dragon was a beautiful self-contained film, the idea of one sequel is pushing it let alone three! What is Hollywood coming to?

What do you think of the multiple DreamWorks sequels? Is it overkill?
