A lot of people have been anxiously awaiting Craig Brewer’s big screen remake of the 1984 dance flick Footloose. There’s an entirely new cast led by up and comers Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough, and Miles Teller. Teller, who also appears in the highly praised drama Rabbit Hole opposite Nicole Kidman this month, recently spoke to us about his role in Footloose. He’ll fill the shoes of the late Chris Penn who played Willard in the original and he told us a little about what we can expect from the movie, dance montages and all!

One of the most debated topics about the new Footloose is whether or not it’s a straight remake. No official photos have been released yet, but from what we’ve heard the premise is the same, the character names are the same, but it’s set in present day. When we asked Teller to describe what the movie exactly is, here’s what he had to say…

Teller: It’s definitely a remake but it’s different. It’s obviously a more contemporary version and we’re not playing to those original characters. Craig Brewer, the writer and director, he adapted this screenplay from Dean Pitchford’s version.

As for the famous roles occupied by Penn, Kevin Bacon, and Lori Singer, Teller says that the new actors put a fresh spin on the characters.

Teller: Obviously, I’m a much different person than Chris Penn, Kenny [Wormald] is different from Kevin Bacon, and so on and so forth. It’s very true to the original but it stands on its own. It’s a lot of fun.

One of the most exciting things to come out of our interview was Teller’s confirmation that he will get a dance montage. He will wear cowboy attire, and he will do the infamous finger snaps that Willard’s known for.

Teller: I think my best outfit in the film is when I wear overalls with a cowboy hat and cowboy boots. I snap the fingers and I get a dance montage to “Let’s Hear it for the Boy.”

We love the “Let’s Hear for Boy” montage in the original!

Teller gave a great interview so look out for our complete one on one regarding his current film Rabbit Hole. Stay tuned!
