It’s the month of December and the campaigning for next year’s Academy Awards is in full swing. Actors, directors, and writers want to get noticed and The Social Network star Justin Timberlake is one of them. The former ‘Nsync member and pop star has tried his best to establish himself as a serious actor and after his performance in David Fincher’s latest film we think he’s done it. According to Page Six, Timberlake is doing everything he can to secure an Oscar nomination for his performance as Sean Parker.
According to the site, Timberlake is zeroing in on the Best Supporting actor category with an “aggressive campaign.” A source close to the actor revealed, “He’s hell-bent on getting a nomination this year even though he has tough competition from his co-star Andrew Garfield.” We can agree with Garfield because his performance was the heart and soul of the movie. Jesse Eisenberg may have been the headlining star, but Garfield had to carry a lot of the film’s emotional weight.
As for Timberlake, if he does get a nod he’s going to have some tough competition. Some front runners for the category include Christian Bale for The Fighter and Geoffrey Rush for The King’s Speech. In our opinion, Timberlake did give the performance of his career in The Social Network but we’re not sure if it was good enough to beat either of those guys. Bale is an amazing actor who’s been looked over countless times in the past for his great work. This might be his year.
What do you think of Timberlake’s chances of getting an Oscar nomination?
