Angela Bassett’s career is undergoing a serious revamp and we love it! The Oscar nominated actress has landed several huge projects in the past few years including her upcoming role in Warner Bros’ comic tentpole The Green Lantern. Now according to a report from Variety, she’s taken on another macho yet romantic film: McG‘s This Means War.

This Means War is a romantic action comedy that stars Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hardy, and Chris Pine. The film centers on two best friends who have been inseparable since childhood. They grow up and discover that they’ve fallen in love with the same woman, which causes their close bond to disintegrate. They’re both veteran spies and what goes from a typical love triangle turns into a conflict of epic proportions.

Bassett has been cast as “the boss to Pine and Hardy’s characters who has dedicated her entire life to the spy business and has no life outside the CIA.” Ah yes, she’ll be a woman in charge! We love to see strong female roles on screen. This sounds like an equivalent to her gig on “ER” where she played the chief of staff, a woman who was solely dedicated to the hospital and nothing else.

This Means War is co-produced by Will Smith and also co-stars Chelsea Handler.
