In October Jackass 3D hit theaters with a punch! The third installment of the film series earned $50 million during its opening weekend surpassing the expectations of everyone. With numbers like that no one was surprised when talk of another sequel surfaced. Similar to their straight to DVD/online effort Jackass 2.5, they’ve already got Jackass 3.5 ready to go.
When we spoke to the cast prior to the release of Jackass 3D they were sure that there would be another movie. It turns out that they still have an abundance of footage that they didn’t use the third time around. Ryan Dunn, the blond and bearded one of the group explained “We literally have enough footage for an entirely other movie. That was the hardest part of making this movie, it was cutting out the good stuff to fit it into an hour and a half.”
Paramount Digital Entertainment in association with MTV, announced today that Jackass 3.5 will be released online in March 2011. Considering how much money they made in theaters it’s kind of a shock that they wouldn’t want to capitalize on that more. But then again we’re not sure how much they’ll charge for the online release. They might be on to something.
What do you think about the next film being released on the internet as opposed to theaters?
