It’s been a while since we’ve seen Halle Berry give a truly heart wrenching performance. The woman who introduced us to Dorothy Dandridge and took us through Monster’s Ball has been M.I.A. as of late but she’s back. Over at Movielicious, they’ve posted the first trailer for her new film Frankie & Alice. It’s a psychological drama that forces Berry to go to a deep and dark place. Check it out…

Frankie & Alice is inspired by a true story and centers on a woman with multiple personalities. If that’s not bad enough her prominent alter is a white racist woman, which adds more than its fair share of conflict. The film takes place in the 1970s and co-stars Phylicia Rashad and Stellan Skarsgard as a doctor who cares for Frankie.

Even though this movie has Berry going back to the indie drama it’s not that compelling. The most interesting part of the story is the conflict between her true self and her other personality, who happens to despise her because of her race. That’s a confrontation we want to see. Other than that, everything here has been done multiple times over.

Frankie & Alice opens in limited release on February 4, 2011.
