Monday we got our first look at Russell Brand’s character in the Easter themed animated film Hop. The British comedian plays the fabled Easter Bunny, but he’s not like the one we heard about as kids. He’s a little rough around the edges. Over on Moviefone, they’ve posted the first teaser trailer for Hop and it has a serious Despicable Me vibe to it, but without the deformed super villain and his minions. Check it out…

Hop centers on an out of work slacker named Fred, who accidentally injures the Easter Bunny and must take him in as he recovers. Fred is voiced by James Marsden, and the rest of the cast includes, Kaley Cuoco, Elizabeth Perkins and Hugh Laurie.

We’re kind of disappointed that we didn’t get to hear Brand’s voice in this. That’s the one downside to this teaser but other than that, it’s hilarious. The character design for the rabbit is adorable and much more appealing than what was used for Despicable Me. There’s also something warm and fuzzy about animals that can play instruments. We can’t put our finger on it but they’re just so damn cute!

Hop hits theaters on April 1.
