We’re really beginning to think that Alfonso Cuaron’s latest film Gravity is cursed. Why won’t actors stay on board with the project? First Angelina Jolie was attached to the movie then she bailed, followed by Natalie Portman who also jumped ship, and through it all Downey held on for dear life as the male lead. Now according to a report from THR, he’s decided to leave the film as well.
Apparently, Downey has left Gravity to focus on a new film called How to Talk to Girls for 20th Century Fox. The movie is based on a book written by a nine year old boy that gives advice on how to deal with the opposite sex. Downey and his wife and producing partner Susan have been eyeing the project along with Shawn Levy and his 21 Laps company. Ben Karlin and Stu Zicherman wrote a draft of the script which is currently being reworked for the Downeys.
Even though he left Gravity, Downey is still attached to star as the title character in Sam Raimi’s Oz, The Great and Powerful. Disney is hoping to start production on the film next summer, while Sandra Bullock is said to be in current negotiations to star in Gravity to pick up where Jolie and Portman left off.
What do you think Downey’s departure means for Gravity?
