The television networks have been cleaning house over the past few months. NBC let go of the JJ Abrams spy drama “Undercovers,” Fox gave the axe to “Lone Star” and now CBS has yielded the hand of death to “Medium.” But the supernatural drama isn’t a freshman series, it’s been in the game for a while. The show starred Patricia Arquette as a psychic medium who used her gift to help solve murder cases and according to EW her career has been cut short.

“Medium” creator Glenn Gordon Caron confirmed the news via the show’s official Facebook page. He stated, “It’s true. Allison Dubois will dream her last dream on Medium Friday, January 21st. In what we believe will be a series defining episode,  Allison and her family will stare destiny in the eye. And destiny will not blink.”

He pretty much confirmed our worst fears after Arquette herself said she was informed of the show’s cancellation. She flat out told EW, “we got canceled.” Even though it sucks to say goodbye, the actress seems excited about the possibilities for the series finale. “I was trying to get information from the writers about the last episode. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but they’re really excited about it.”

“Medium” originally had a 22 episode order from the network that was eventually cut down to 13. The show airs on Friday nights at 8 pm and is averaging 7.1 million viewers per week.

What do you think of CBS’ decision to cancel Medium? Are you surprised?
