Over the past few weeks, Lionsgate has been looking for a new director to take on their feature adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. The last time we checked, Mike White was the front runner in the group of candidates that included Jonathan Demme, Matt Reeves, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Mike Newell, David Slade, and Neil Marshall. Today it’s been confirmed that the studio has given him an official offer to direct.

The story for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will expand on the Jane Austen classic by adding a few blood thirty zombies into the mix. It’s based on the reinterpretation of author Seth Grahame-Smith, and tells the timeless story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.

White is a bit of a triple threat in the industry. He’s an actor, director, and screenwriter who previously wrote School of Rock and Nacho Libre. White’s style of comedy along with his willingness to work with campy material makes him a good choice for this film. David O’Russell was previously set to direct before dropping out to work on another project. Natalie Portman was also set to star before — you guessed it, dropping out to work on another project.

What do you think of White directing Pride and Prejudice and Zombies?
