“The Simpsons” can’t and won’t be stopped! The animated series is the most successful spin-off of all time, as well as the longest running comedy in television history. According to the Fox Network, they’ve just renewed the series for another year, which will bring its grand total to 23 seasons. Who would have thought that Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie would have lasted this long?
Fox broke the news this morning confirming that the 23rd season will bring the show’s episode total to 515! “Like many 22-year-olds, “The Simpsons” is extremely happy remaining at home, on Fox, and hopes it doesn’t have to go out into the real world for many years to come,” said Al Jean, Executive Producer.
After all this time, what’s next on the cartoon family’s agenda? I haven’t watched the show in over 10 years but it seems to somehow stay relevant and fresh. Aren’t the producers and writers afraid that at some point it will run out of steam and go out with a whimper instead of a bang?
Whatever their motivation, the numbers are obviously strong enough to fend off the Seth MacFarlane crew of “Family Guy,” “The Cleveland Show,” and “American Dad.” On a side note, the network also revealed that the World Broadcast Premiere of The Simpsons Movie will air Thanksgiving night, Thursday, Nov. 25 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), on Fox.
What do you think of Fox’s decision to renew The Simpsons? Do you still watch the show?
