Back in September, we reported that Chris Pine was in negotiations to star in a developing film called Welcome to People. Yes, the title sounds strange but the story is even stranger. The film will mark screenwriter Alex Kurtzman’s (Lost, Star Trek) directorial debut. And according to THR, he’s landed another actor for it in the form of the talented Elizabeth Banks.
The premise of Welcome to People centers on “a man who must deliver $150,000 in cash to an alcoholic sister he didn’t know he had after the death of their father. Without telling her who he is, the guy also gets involved in the life of her angry 12-year old son.” Guess who’s going to play the drunk sister?! Banks! They still haven’t cast the part of the young boy, but we’re keeping our eyes open for that.
Kurtzman co-wrote the screenplay for the film with his longtime collaborator Roberto Orci, who will also help him produce via their DreamWorks-based Paper Products company.
Banks has been on a roll as of late. This is just one of the many projects she has on her upcoming slate. She’s currently filming the thriller Man on a Ledge opposite Sam Worthington, and will appear in Paul Haggis‘ The Next Three Days when it opens on November 19th.
What do you think of Pine and Banks playing siblings in Welcome to People? Who should play the 12 year old?
