Are you ready for an action flick that shows women in a more positive light? And by positive we mean, not playing the damsel in distress or being the source of conflict for the male protagonist. Every now and then we see strong female characters take the lead in these types of films, and Warner Bros is gearing up to produce one of them. According to Deadline, the studio will adapt the female-centric Brad Thor novel The Athena Project.

If you’ve never heard of The Athena Project you shouldn’t feel bad, because the book hasn’t been published yet. The studio has made a preemptive deal to acquire the film rights to the novel, which is scheduled to hit shelves on November 23rd.

The book centers on “an elite all-female Delta team made up of four agents who try to stop a terror attack on American soil. After a terror attack in Rome kills 23 Americans, the agents are sent to hunt down the Venetian arms dealer who supplied the explosives. This leads to a much larger terrorist conspiracy.”

Can you imagine what actresses could take on the four main roles? We call Jennifer Garner as the leader of the team, and maybe Summer Glau or Eliza Dushku as her right-hand woman.

What do you think of the premise for The Athena Project? Who do you think should star in the film?
