Tina Fey received her Mark Twain award last night for her for her amazing comedic work and her speech was not without a few punches to herself as well as the right-wing party. As many know she has had much success in the past couple of years with one of her favorite impersonations of all time, Sarah Palin…
“I would be a liar and an idiot if I didn’t thank Sarah Palin for helping me get here tonight,” Fey said. “My partial resemblance and her crazy voice are the two luckiest things that have ever happened to me.”
Tina Fey: I’m going to MILK that. I’ll be doing that, God willing, til I’m 70 years old in a used car lot.
Along with her “thanks” to Palin for her success she also had a few other back-handed comments to add about the sudden increase of conservative women politicians… Fey said the increase in female politicians was a positive thing….
“unless you don’t want to pay for your own rape kit . . . unless you’re a lesbian who wants to get married to your partner of 20 years . . . [or] unless you believe in evolution.”
Oh Tina, so few people can work rape into a joke and have it still be funny. No wonder you won that award.
Fey, 40, is the youngest person to have won the honor in 13 years, and the third female recipient after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg. To that she had to say…
“I never thought I’d ever qualify for the Mark Twain prize … Maybe the Judy Blume prize for awkward puberty,” Fey said.
Guess it pays to be awkward growing up! Worked for Eddie Izzard! Check out one of Fey’s many Palin impressions below…
