One thing is surely going to get a nomination for Julie Taymor‘s version of The Tempest — the costume design. Aside from the stellar cast, the enticing trailer, the breathtaking cinematography, the beautiful make-up and amazing production design that I’m sure will make this film a success, these newly released photos show off the absolutely gorgeous costumes designed by multiple time Academy Award winning designer Sandy Powell — I think she would make Shakespeare proud with her work on this film.

Check out a number of new photos and a few other favorites of mine below…

You can watch the full trailer and check out the poster for the film as well.

The Tempest stars Helen Mirren as Prospera, the female interpretation of Prospero, alongside Alfred Molina, Alan Cumming, Djimon Hounsou, Russell Brand , Chris Cooper, Ben Whishaw, and David Strathairn. The story centers on a sorceress (traditionally a sorcerer) who rules over a magical island and its shipwrecked captives.

The Tempest hits theaters on December 10th, just in time for Oscar season.

What do you think of the look of the film? Are you impressed?
