Back in May it was announced that writer and actress Tina Fey was chosen to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. She’s only the third woman to win the honor in the past 13 years, after Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg. Isn’t that sad? The event will take place on the evening of November 9th at the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall and all of her friends and colleagues will be in attendance.
Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein stated, “Like Mark Twain, Tina Fey offers her brilliance unconditionally. Throughout her career, she’s earned legions of fans for her quick, unapologetic wit and social commentary. The Kennedy Center is pleased to celebrate her broad and successful contributions to the world of comedy.”
After hearing the news that she’d receive the award, Fey stated, “I am truly thrilled to receive this honor. I assume Betty White was disqualified for steroid use.” Oh Tina and Betty, what are we going to do with you two! Some of the scheduled guests and performers who will be on hand tonight include Fred Armisen, Steve Carell, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Hamm, Jennifer Hudson, Jane Krakowski, Steve Martin, Seth Meyers, Lorne Michaels, Tracy Morgan, and Amy Poehler.
The ceremony will be taped and aired on November 14th on all PBS outlets.
What do you think of the turn out for Fey’s event? Do you think she deserves the award?
